Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus)

It was not until Australia was discovered by the Europeans, around 1770, that the world got to know the eucalyptus tree.

Because the fast-growing eucalyptus tree needs a lot of water, it was preferably planted in swamp areas in many warm countries. Numerous swamps were drained.

 

As a result, the malaria-transmitting Anopholes mosquito could no longer multiply. The malaria disease has been pushed back. That is why the eucalyptus is also called the "fever tree" in many places.

Nowadays the eucalyptus tree can be found in most countries where the climate is warm enough for it, for example in the Mediterranean, on the Canary Islands, in the tropics and subtropics.
